To invest or not to invest, that is the big question when it comes to designer handbags.
Is it really worth it? I mean, a designer handbag could cost something similar to one month’s salary, right? But so is an engagement ring! At the end of the day, they are both ‘luxury items’ but at least with the handbag you can carry your things around!
My point is that a handbag is an expensive item but it will last you forever. Also, the pre-loved market is booming, in case you decide to sell it down the line.
As you can see, I am totally pro-investing in designer handbags. But before going ahead with it, you should consider a few things to help your decision and make sure it is the right one.
Bags are universal, they have a language of their own, and same as with your style, they introduce you before you even have the chance to say ‘Hola’!
A good handbag has the power to make an outfit look polished without even putting that much effort into it. Just by adding that special piece you’ll look and feel fabulous.
A few tips to remember before saying ‘I do’:
Research, research, research!
Yes, research is key when it comes to buying designer handbags (and any luxury item really!). Go online and read the reviews, learn about the fabrics and materials and the history behind the brand and the bag. This way you will make not just an informed decision but also a meaningful one.
Go to the shop and try it on. This is actually a really nice experience! Might seem a bit intimidating but it’s one I definitely recommend.
Think about the outfits you can get out of it. Can you fit everything you usually carry in your bag? Is it too heavy? Uncomfortable? Think about all those things.
Another one to consider is the style / print of the bag. We usually like a designer because of a particular monogram or style, but is this something you will be wearing forever? Maybe think about starting with a timeless design, and build up from there.
And the most important piece of advice, is that, does it really suit your lifestyle? Bags are to be worn! Even designer bags, believe it or not!
As an example, when I had my first baby, my husband got me a beautiful Prada bag, a timeless design in the perfect size that I have used almost every day since. For my second baby he got me a gorgeous lambskin Chanel wallet on chain that I absolutely love but have hardly ever used. Why? Because it is so small than nothing really fits! It’s perfect for a night out, just to carry the keys, phone and lipstick, but it doesn’t suit my lifestyle, at least not these days.
Both bags are more than just bags to me, they mark my two biggest achievements and I’m forever grateful for them.
So, with that in mind, here’s my designer handbag wish list. A list of beautiful handbags that I see myself wearing day in day out over the next few years. I hope that you like them as much as I do!

The Loewe Basket
First of all, Loewe is one of my favourite design houses. It was founded in 1846 in Madrid by a group of Spanish leather craftsmen, and the actual brand originated in 1876 when Enrique Loewe y Roessberg, a German craftsman, joined the group.Back to the basket – It’s the perfect summer bag to go to the beach, groceries or just brunch. If you have kids like me, you’d appreciate the space to carry your kids’ legos and colouring pads. Also is a good starting point if you don’t want to start with a big investment.

The Goyard Artois
Another big one to carry everything around! I’ve always loved this bag, and the ‘Goyardine’ which is the ‘Goyard Chevron pattern’. Also, the fact that you can personalise it as well, what’s not to love! I would like this bag for when we can travel again (hopefully soon…, but before that I see myself using it for work meetings to carry my laptop and everything I usually carry. I like the green because it works with my wardrobe.
Since I already own a black leather piece, I would like to have one with a designer’s monogram and no one does this better than Gucci (Dior also has great ones too!)

Gucci Horsebit 1955
I love the Gucci Horsebit 1955 shoulder bag. It has just been introduced for Cruise 2020 and the original one was launched over six decades ago (exactly the year my dad was born). This bag it’s just gorgeous and meaningful and the perfect size for when you just need to carry the essentials. Also, you can adjust the length of the shoulder strap so it can be carried on one shoulder or cross body.
And last but not least, a bit of an ‘aspirational one’, the Birkin.

Birkin
A bag perfect for every single occasion. This bag was born in the ‘sky’ on a flight from Paris to London. British actress Jane Birkin, sitting next to Jean-Louis Dumas, Executive Chairman of Hermès, was complaining that she couldn’t find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. He immediately sketched a supple and spacious rectangular hold all with a burnished flap and saddle stitching. With a dedicated space for baby bottles! (Hermès) – I soooo love this and also the fact that I’ve always admired Jane Birkin’s effortless style.
Waitlists to get the Birkin are years’ long, but I’m sure it’s worth every single dollar.
So, this is it from me, how about you, do you have a designer handbag wishlist? Would love to know about it!
