Summer is finally on the horizon, and now that most Australians are back on the streets it’s time to think about the new season and how to get our wardrobes ready for it.
The first thing I do when the seasons change is a ‘wardrobe edit‘. I get my storage boxes out and I put away all items that I won’t be using over the next few months such as boots, coats and jackets. I like to keep my wardrobe minimal which means no space for the ‘just-in-case’ items. Everything has a purpose and a reason to be there.
When it comes to adding new pieces it’s best to start with a clean and well organised wardrobe to reduce anxiety. This will bring more clarity and in my case happiness!
Most of the pieces from my ‘summer wardrobe essentials’ are pieces that I keep in my wardrobe all year round and I style them in different ways so they’re suitable for more than one season. I always like to add a few extra ‘trendier’ items to give it a more personal and fun touch, which I’ll show you how on my next post.
Summer Essentials
White Shirt
Everyone needs one. The white shirt works with almost everything so it’s an easy addition that will give you multiple combinations.
There are many types of white shirts, from a relaxed vibe with linen fabrics to a more structured look with poplin or even cotton.

I love a good oversized shirt, like this one from Zara:

This bleached one from Jac & Mooki is a funkier take on the ‘white shirt’ and can also be styled in many different ways:
Basic t-shirt and tank
Another must haves! This season it’s all about shoulder, and these ones from Zara are both great options.
Maxi Dress
I love maxi dresses; I think they are essential for any summer wardrobe.

This one from Camilla and Marc is the perfect definition of timeless. A style, color and shape that you can wear for seasons to come! Add a blazer on top and a shirt underneath and you have the perfect autumn / winter outfit.

For some florals, Aje is always a great option:
Strappy Sandals
In summer you need a shoe that is comfortable and breathable but also needs to look good! And for me the strappy sandal is it.

Flats suit my lifestyle better than heels, and this ones from Wittner are a really good option:

For some colour:

But the truth is that I do love a good heel! These ones from Nine West have a great variety of colours and the heel is not too high:
Shorts
A good pair of shorts are the epitome of a ‘effortlessly cool summer look’. Especially if you’re a mum and you spend part of your day chasing toddlers. They can be dressed down with a basic tee and up with a shirt and a blazer for an evening look.

Khaki shorts are very wearable and super easy to combine as they work with most colours.
Blazer
If you’ve read my previous post, you know how much I love a blazer, even for summer! Perfect for those evenings when the temperature drops a little but you still want to look polished.

This one is called ‘the ultimate casual blazer’ and it’s exactly that!
Raffia Bag
Yes! This might be more of a ‘trendy element’ but looks so good and it’s also very wearable.

If you want to spend a bit extra definitely go for the Loewe, one of my favorite bags. It takes me straight back to my Mediterranean roots.

But you can definitely find more affordable options, like this one from Novo.
Hat
It’s very important to be sun smart and a hat adds a really trendy element to your look! They are also a good option if you haven’t had time to do your hair, quick and easy! I do it all the time…#mumlife
and why not a bucket hat, they are very in right now!
